The Dragon Cares
This portion of our website is dedicated to charitable projects and events The Dancing Dragon proudly participates in. Here you will find information about the cause, what is being done to help, how The Dancing Dragon is involved and how you can help out too.
Aiding the Local Pet Community
Look for an upcoming post in Crafty Dragon on how we make these crochet toy fish.
Try and find a way to turn something you enjoy doing and something you care about into a way you can positively impact your community. Together we can all be there for one another and strengthen our communities.
Sending Aid to Japan
The Dancing Dragon has created a new section of our Etsy shop called The Dragon Cares where we currently have three of our most popular art prints listed. These prints will be sold and their proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross to help send aid to Japan. We will also make a donation matching the first $100.00 in purchases. New items will also be added to this section so that you can select how much you would like to contribute.
You are always welcome and encouraged to make your own donation to the American Red Cross or you other favorite corporation to help aid Japan through this crisis.
Below you can see the list of prints and items currently being sold to help Japan.
Doll Auctions for Nora
To the left is the Light Doll.
The Light and Dark Dolls are now up for auction at http://battlemaidenart.blogspot.com/ .
Some of you may recall that one of the members of the Fantasy Artists of Etsy (FAE), Nora, has been fighting a tough battle with cancer. In just a few short months she has been in and out of the hospital 11 times! Although the doctors are doing all they can to help her physically and her family and friends are holding her up emotionally, we feel that Nora and her family could use a helping hand to help with all the medical bills.
These dolls were a combined effort on the part of several members of the Fantasy Artists of Etsy street team. Each doll comes with a journal that was also handmade from one of our members, that each artisan used to journal their process. The winner of this beauty will truely be getting a piece of art!
Each doll has its own auction listing at http://battlemaidenart.blogspot.com/. Bidding starts at $30.00 per doll. You may bid on one or both dolls if you choose.
Rules: Please only bid in full dollar amounts! To place your bid, just comment here. The winner agrees to purchase the doll through Etsy.com at the full bid price, plus an additional $10 for shipping to anywhere in the world. I will refund overcharged shipping as long as it's more than $1 through PayPal. I only accept PayPal as payment. Any questions? Let Valorie at The Battlemaiden Studio know!
Remember: If you would like to simply contribute funds toward this project you can contact Valorie of The Battlemaiden Studio. She is accepting funds via pay pal and you can send it to her account at [email protected]. Please remember to mention "Nora" in the subject line.

Operation Winds of Hope
One of our Fantasy Artists of Etsy Team members Valorie is in need of support. During Hurricane Ike, half of the roof of her family's house caved in, and she is currently sheltering four family members in her small apartment until repairs are made. It is my hope that with the sale of this bracelet, we can uplift Valorie's family's spirits too, by lending them our support as they pull through this difficult time together. Please keep an eye out for other items tagged with windsofhope, from our team, as we literally try to help to "raise the roof" for her family!
As you will see at the first announcement in The Dragon Cares, Valorie was the artist kind enough to create a water color painting to sell at auction to help one of our other team members when they were in trouble. The least we can do is help her out too.
How The Dancing Dragon is helping out:
We are selling a bracelet at our Etsy shop called "Magic Nights". 100% of the sale of this bracelet will be donated toward my fellow FAEteam member, Valorie, of Battlemaiden Studios. http://battlemaiden.etsy.com
Bracelet measures 7 1/2 inches long. Turquoise glass beads feature a crescent moon and stars, beads are 1/2 inch wide. Silver star beads are 1/4 inch wide. It is strung with 49 strand 0.46mm Beadalon wire and features a sturdy lobster clasp. Bracelet arrives packaged in a small box cushioned with jewelers cotton. How can you help?
There are many ways you can show your support. Thoughts, prayers, well wishes and aid. This aid can come from supporting the sale of this bracelet, sales at her shop (http://battlemaiden.etsy.com) or even giving time or donations to aid releif efforts for victoms of Hurrican Ike. If you are another artist on Etsy and would like to make something also to help benefit Valorie feel free. Just be sure to add the tag "windsofhope". With so many ways to help out please take a few minutes out of your day to lend a hand. If you do choose to buy through her shop please be paitent with shipping as she is needing to concentrate on helping her family.
Silly Kitty Needs A Helping Paw
Megumi beloved pet of user name Trinlayk at Etsy.com needs your prayers, purrs and happy thoughts. Her cat has been very sick and has already accumulated $1,500.00 (as of 9-16-08) in recent veterinary bills including an x-ray, sonogram and blood tests. The results of the x-ray were normal however the bloodwork suggests that something is wrong with the poor kitty's liver. Megumi is also experiencing a lot of nausea and loss of appetite and is taking special medications in addition to her usual hair ball treatment. With the results of the last test indicating her liver is stressed and with more tests on the way Megumi and Trinlayk could both use a helping hand with prayers, happy thoughts and financial support.
Currently there is a fundraiser being held to help cover the looming bills. All of the items in the fundraiser have been inspired by her beloved cat and are on useful items! To view the fundraiser please visit this website: http://www.zazzle. com/trinlayk/ products. You can also donate funds at Trinlayk's blog here: http://trinlayk.blogspot.com/ . Or simply visit her Etsy shop at: http://www.trinlayk .etsy.com
This particular cat is also very special. Some fellow Fantasy Artists of Etsy members may recall that Megumi was Trinlayk's "assistance kitty" who managed to save her life when she had a bad reaction to a new medication
a few years ago.
How can you help? Please take a moment of your time to see what you can do to help this very special cat and her owner and friend. Even the smallest paw can give the greatest comfort!
The Dancing Dragon has lent a paw with the publicity of the fundraiser as well as with the purchase of a "Silly Kitty" tee shirt. We will also continue to do so throughout the length of the fundraiser and with any additional auctions or donation activities to aid with ventrinary bills.
Helping Out Nora
Image is of the art print "Brief Respite"
Over the past few months one of the members of the Fantasy Artists of Etsy (FAE), Nora, has been fighting a tough battle with cancer. In the last two months she has been in and out of the hospital 11 times! Although the doctors are doing all they can to help her physically and her family and friends are holding her up emotionally, we feel that Nora and her family could use a helping hand to help with all the medical bills.
As a group effort the FAE Team has organized a number of ways you can lend some aid to Nora and her family through this difficult time. We just concluded a public auction for an orignal watercolor painting titled "Brief Respite". "Brief Respite" is an orignial composition created by The Battlemaiden Studio - Fantasy Illustration by Valorie. The auction ended on July 15th at 11:59 pm and was sold for $40.00. The next auction will begin in a few weeks for a wonderful art piece called "The Dark Doll". More information will be posted about the auction as details become available. Currently the doll is receiving her finishing touches before she is put up for auction.
In the mean time art prints and bookmarks of "Brief Respite" are available for sale. All funds will be donated to Nora and her family and can be found at The Battlemaiden Studio,
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5041208§ion_id=5520210, in the "Nora" section of Valorie's shop. These reproductions are beautiful and reasonably priced for a wonderful cause.
The Dancing Dragon has helped with the publicity of the auction and has purchased an art print and three bookmarks to help contribute. We will continue to do so throughout the sale of the reproductions and auction of The Dark Doll as well as any following projects to benefit Nora and her family.
How can you help? If you can spare a few dollars please purchase an art print or a bookmark to help with this wonderful cause. If you would like to simply contribute funds toward this project you can contact Valorie of The Battlemaiden Studio. She is accepting funds via pay pal and you can send it to her account at [email protected]. Please remember to mention "Nora" in the subject line.
